The best wireless earbuds from MEE so far

Have been buying MEE earbuds since the M9 was popular on Head-Fi circa 2010. Those were fantastic value for money, and subsequently MEE became one of my go-to brands for EDC headphones. M9s, M6s, Runaways, A161s, M-Duos, and more recently Pinnacle P1s and X10s. There have been some misses, but in general each one was, for its time, either a good value or a great value.

I would classify these Pebbles as the latter - it really seems like MEE went back to their roots with these, giving us good audio but great value. The M9s were the same way - objectively not the best earbuds you could get even back in 2010, but packing so much bang for the buck that it was almost unfair to more established brands.

So, back to the Pebbles - they are not the traditional MEE sound with enhanced bass and treble. Instead, they what I would call "mainstream-balanced" - a little warmer than a true monitoring earbud, with some upper bass and midrange lift - but very easy to listen to for prolonger periods of time. This is the same type of sound Apple has so successfully adopted for their Earpods and Airpods.

Because these are non-sealing earbuds, there is a limit on how much sub-bass you can get out of them, but I think they do a very admirable job, especially compared to earbuds (not in-ears) of yesteryear. Earpods overcame a lot of issues with earlier earbud designs to deliver decently flat bass to the listener, and these do much of the same. Overall, it's a very decent sound for music if you like your audio balanced and clear - especially considering the price point. And it's a very good sound for videos, phone calls, etc - again because of the prominent mids.

Beyond the sound, they are small and comfortable and do everything that the X10s did, but better. I thought I would miss the physical buttons, but the "click" sound these make when you interact with the touch panel is a decent substitute. Haptic feedback would be even better, but I don't know how that would feel in the ear. I will also miss the clear battery indicator from the X10 case, but I understand that even Airpods have moved to a single-LED battery indicator so I guess less is more when it comes to these things.

The best part by far is the value - I recommended the M9s and M6s to dozens of my friends and family members over the years, and I didn't have to qualify my recommendation because they are so affordable. Then as prices crept up, I had to be a little more careful and make sure to let people know that A161s don't have a ton of bass and that the X10s don't have touch controls and maybe won't fit the smallest ears. And now with these, we are back to something objectively affordable and easy to recommend, and I can't wait to share them with others!
